online like it's 2007!

It's great to just do and not think, eh? Thinking has gotten me tied up in lists and behind on dreams. Today I just jumped in and focused on income activities. What activities generate money? Blog posts? Not yet, maybe with advertisers and affiliates? But need more readers too!!! Painting? Yes - got some of those. Had many pieces admired during my open studios. How about making them accessible for collecting?

So I did that thing that invites money, I posted two paintings in my etsy shop. Though I had opened my etsy account in 2009, my shop had never been set up and so now my shop open date is officially tomorrow (as it's marked in east coast time). That's good. It won't look like my art's sat around online for 5 years :)

And the title of this post? 2007 is when I first put on a list that I would make and sell items on etsy. Now I know lists are toxic to my productivity.

Thank you for fighting for me. For keeping peace for me. And for being brave for all of us.

I smiled catching this collection on the front page of Etsy earlier today and am grateful to those who serve our country so I may pursue my passions.

and I think I got my cooking mojo back!!! It's been over 12 years!

{sunday's bouquet} summer is happening

yes, mark twain is quoted as saying the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in san francisco.

i just got back from the east coast where air conditioning is mandatory and the first day of summer passed two days after my cousin got married. it's was a gorgeous outdoor reception, no sweater needed.

yesterday was foggy and a bit gloomy in the city. this bouquet helps me remember the brightness and lightness of summer. i'll soon be camping up in the sierras, so i'll get plenty of that daytime sunshine.

i'll soak it all in.

{eco find} re-upholster

here's a lovely video made by two of the upholster-ers of spruce. ah, the sprucettes!

they find chairs to update with (ironically) vintage fabrics. they also offer green options when reupholstering chairs; like natural and organic padding materials and fabrics.

i love how the two sprucettes work together, side-by-side, completing this chair make-over in the video.

and what an important component of their business, to pass on the lost art of upholstery by offering classes in their austin, texas storefront. here's a great link to student before-and-afters!

and guess what's getting added to my maker list... actually, re-upholstery has been on my list, in the form of two chairs in my parents' garage... ever since i saw this posting at sea of shoes (and found two chairs at the side of the road).

{eco find} re-purposed leather

ahhh, the demi-corset. not too rigid, not to lackadaisical. defines the waist, glamorizes the figure...

this one comes from hende of re-purposed leather and a wooden pin to close your corset.

and by the way, oh my gosh, i am totally enamored with this shopkeeper's profile on etsy! her balance of life seems very serene and inviting to me right now... go take a look too!

not only using sustainable materials, but keeping her whole eco-footprint as small as can be by keeping errands to fewer days.

it's lovely to be inspired by such beauty and to know it's possible...

{eco find} vintage fabric slippers

i love making a lighter footprint on the earth by using less new resources and conserving where i can. these eco toes help to make that happen... practically literally!

i noticed these yellow plaid slippers on the front page of etsy and had to investigate further. infusion is a shop run by abby on the premise of not just reusing materials, but creating something durable and long lasting. the infusion fibers blog is also lovely, showcasing beautiful sustainable home projects and images.

i've reclaimed many samples of upholstery fabric, but they are still piled up waiting for inspiration. infusion has figured out a striking way to reuse such fabric. polka dot eco toes!

this pair below reminds me of the environmental studies project i completed waaaaaay back in college. i presented facts and findings on the massive amounts of mattresses ending up in landfills. could they be designed to be disassembled and their components reused or recycled? ticking was a tough one to find a new home for. it's the fabric usually on the outer-most surface of the bed. not quite absorbent enough to use as rags... but as shoes, yes! and the stripes are so cute! though, i think this vintage fabric made it's way from somewhere else than a mattress.

{gold!} just loving these images!

checking the front page of etsy one more time before heading to bed last night, i clicked on the shop called tavin. i was drawn there by this dress...

being struck by this image, i had to explore more and pulled up this dress listed next to it, a beautiful blue knit dress. i love the expansion and constriction of the pattern movement.

the images are peaceful, delicate, and beautiful. and the sentiment erin, the proprietor, shares about her shop and building an online community through her vintage offerings feels like a genuine warm hug!

under each beautifully photographed vintage garment, erin writes some prose, sharing her observations of moments.

this last one features a 1930's look i think we can relatively easily emulate now. a coin-bedazzled necklace, a thin scarf tied as a headband, and a worn-in, soft cotton tank top... and i love those white tights. but that style, that look, capturing that image... not so easy to replicate. learn more about the style photo-shoot at erin's shop announcement on etsy

wow, the new alice movie is already in theaters! i got some friends together to go check it out tomorrow, in 3d! i don't know if i've been to a 3d movie since i was a shorty... i hear the 3d glasses aren't paper anymore!

{white rabbits!} spring is coming!

these white rabbits seem especially cute and welcoming given that it's almost spring! san francisco has had crazy weather with storm clouds on odd numbered days and bright sunshine on even numbered days, so hopefully the longer, brighter days of spring will even that all out.

oh, and spring cleaning. didn't i just clean for the new year? well, a nice fresh polish won't hurt anything. i'll give it a go.

this month's pack of white rabbits is inspired my the snuggly 3D variety.

{white rabbits!} february style!

hope you're having a lucky day! month number two for our new year!!! how're things going so far? what has brought you joy this year? what will you work towards next?

i've been getting my studio organized, got a few new storage cabinets. i'm up-to-date with making daily aceo's. it's been a lot of fun trying new techniques all within 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches.

for february i'm planning on finishing my encaustics piece, destashing some yarn via new knitting or crochet projects, and get my wardrobe together!!!

february is the relationship month, heh? these rabbits look like they're getting a lovely date night going. fun!
