links for my seester // have you used that lace yet?
Hey Seester,
Remember how you got some lace when we were in that amazing/overstocked wonderland of trimmings and sewing notions in Pennsylvania that Summer?
Well, if you didn't already get a bracelet together from the lace like you wanted to do, here's an awesome tutorial for you, needing basically mod podge and a cylindrical form!

what i learned about true inspiration and the advice
to be kind
Today I learned that sometimes an inspiration does not care to be called an inspiration. And though some choices may be made for you, real grace arises when you flow and float with what is delivered; even more amazing when the choice was not your own.
So, though it may not be your choice to be called an inspiration, that makes you one even more as you have embraced your circumstances with grace and eloquence, continuing to embrace living, fighting your own battle and giving others resources to fight their own.
Choosing how to show up.
Jackie O passed away from brain cancer, triumphant in spirit to the end. You can still support her cause by bidding at this auction and learning more about what Jackie's friends are doing.
.... and you can still be inspired by her life's work and her lasting message.

the 100th stike, embracing the fail AND the flow, and patience
Well, a lot has unfolded in life as it usually does. Lately I've been reflecting on my efforts to make positive change in my life, which has averaged an hour a week for 35 years straight. Sometimes it's been more than that weekly, and of course, sometimes not at all. (I was not self-aware enough at the age of 4 to really dive in... or 17) My biggest impact now is being patient and trusting that the outcomes from all this work are slowly seeping into my everyday quality of life. It's easier to trust that's happening because I believe I've found the right combination for me, for now. I've unlocked my gifts! 35 to the right, 17 to the left, 4... pop goes the padlock! Because I'm more sure of what my interests and passions are, it makes it so much more easy to share (duh) and seek out others who are inspiring! It's been a long road and one I wasn't always clear would lead to such awesomeness.
The first big leap forward was embracing failing. It's really so much fun to fail! It's so freeing. And it provides invaluable information. It's tremendously important to know what doesn't work for me. Knowing that frees me up to find what energizes me!
This process reminds me of a stonecutter hitting a rock. She could be hammering away at a very precise point for 90 blows. Getting up there to even hit number 99 without seeing any results for her efforts. But here comes the 100th strike and keerrrackkkk! The rock falls open.
My life and passions are falling open, there is a distinct flow of creativity, growth, health, wellness, and abundance as I get out of my own way. It is still overwhelming but I've eliminated the part that does the play-by-plays and I'm just in the game. And I allow the strikes I take towards change to build and accumulate, I have patience, and I see results.
Do you dedicate an hour a week to yourself? More? Less? What do you like to do during that time? What's the biggest challenge that gets in your way of spending more time with yourself? What support would you need to meet your needs?
Coming up I'll be sharing which inspiring person I got to meet, more on the importance of patience, and we'll sum it up with the steps to becoming an overnight success!

happy memorial day
Thank you for fighting for me. For keeping peace for me. And for being brave for all of us.
I smiled catching this collection on the front page of Etsy earlier today and am grateful to those who serve our country so I may pursue my passions.
(A shout out to my big bro!)

this sexy beast kept me company yesterday...
... while I organized my art studio.
(The video, not the man. *sigh*) And while I organized, I did not throw or burn anything. Well, maybe "lightly tossed".
Enjoy!

rip mca, damnit.
A sad pause today when a friend came up and told me MCA had died.
I remember the first time a friend mentioned MCA. In my middle school gym class we had been broken into teams and assigned to perform aerobic dance moves to a song of our choice. The cool girl lead her team in showing off their moves to Brass Monkey. We were all so jealous that we hadn't had access to use that song, too. It's hard to get your hands on the latest cassette tape when you don't have older siblings or an allowance.
I later borrowed the tape from a friend in class, James (also, RIP) and took it home to play over my parents stereo system. I plugged in the tape upstairs then rushed downstairs to the remote kitchen speakers mounted high on the wall and stood on a chair so my ear would be just next to the emanating beats. I was loving every song and starting to catch the words and learn which voice belonged to which emcee. My mom, concerned with this new *rap* music, came and accused the Beastie Boys of having foul language and therefore I shouldn't listen to them (may be why she never got the chance to witness me listening to DJ Quik). I assured her they only had one bad word in the whole tape. And it wasn't even the eff word.
I know I later saw the Beastie Boys somewhere, can't remember what the first time was. I was at the Free Tibet Concert in San Francisco. Can't recall if it was the first or second year or both. Bjork was there.
My favorite show watching them was during their Hello Nasty tour at the Oakland Coliseum. At that show I learned how those screaming girls in the clips of Beatles fans felt. I couldn't stop screaming during the show. Oh, I wasn't screaming when we all (the whole 50,000 person audience) recited the lyrics to Paul Revere. Is it Ad Rock who starts it off? All he said was, "Nooowwww" and we all went at it. THAT's got to feel amazing. To have so many people jump in and know shit you wrote. And knowing they've had to have known it for the past decade, plus. Yum. Good Feelings. Props on that.
